About this Event:

The POWER of Specificity in Job Search

You’ve heard of “spray and pray” job search, and have probably been told to avoid it. That’s great advice. If you want to increase your chances of finding your next job in less time, you need to be specific about what you want.

Specificity will help you narrow in on a job target you can hit, instead of shooting blind. And specificity helps others help you. When people want to help you, and when you want them to help you, you need a better answer to “what kind of job are you looking for?” than “I’ll do anything.” Because, honestly, you probably won’t do anything.

Why Attend:

I’ll teach you how to be specific about what kind of work you want to do, and how to use that specificity to power your job search. Using my approach, my clients have landed jobs doing work they really want to do, even during the height of the great recession. I’m eager to share these tools and techniques with job seekers, to help you find your “right fit” job.

About this Presenter:

Julie Erickson is a career and executive coach who helps people and organizations find and do their "right fit" work - work they absolutely love to do.  Since 2008, she has helped more than hundreds of people on their path to their "right fit" work through her business, Mission Advancement Consulting, and her blog myrightfitjob.com.  Julie has melded her marketing abilities with her extensive experience in running organizations to create a system for identifying people’s Core Value Proposition, and then creating the marketing materials (resume, CV, cover letter, LinkedIn profile) that position people to get the jobs they want. As an executive coach, she has prepared several successful candidates for Executive Director positions, and supports top executives to lead their organizations to growth and increased impact.

Prior to starting her own business, Julie was Executive Director of New York Restoration Project and served as Executive Director of City Harvest for 11 years. At City Harvest, she built a team and an organization that took that hunger relief organization from obscurity to being one of New York City’s best-known charities.  Julie led Public/Private Initiatives at the New York City Department of Employment during the Dinkins administration, where she learned the ins and outs of workforce development, private sector hiring practices, and how to speak an employer’s language.  A graduate of Smith College, Julie has an MBA in Leadership from New York Institute of Technology.
