About the Session:

This session represents an overview of initial findings from a five year on-going survey conducted by PCI global, an international Project Management training and consulting company. The survey has been conducted with over a thousand  practicing team members and project leaders from at least twenty of PCI’s Fortune 500 clients. The findings raise serious questions about how organizations deal with projects.

Executive Overview

Projects do not appear or exist in isolation. They are developed in an organization by a perceived need from senior management that a change in process or product is required. Planning, resourcing, implementing and controlling these projects cause changes in that organization. The projects, in turn are impacted and changed by that organization. Management sets priorities by project funding, assigning scarce resources to some projects but not others, requiring changes in specifications, shrinking due dates and cutting budget.  How these decisions are made and communicated create a project culture unique to each organization. Over time these processes become institutionalized and create an organization in which Senior Management knowingly or not tends to support, ignore or actually obstruct projects within their organization

In PCI Global’s Project Leadership course, taught with project a simulations-game PCI inserted a 14 question survey to be completed as part of the pre-work . The questions get answered honestly because  they are anonymous and seen to be a required part of the pre-work.
